Montpelier Mansion is located at Route 197 and Muirkirk Road in Laurel. Address: 9401 Montpelier Drive, Laurel, Md. 20708.


From the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, take the Route 197 exit and go west on Route 197 for a quarter-mile. Turn left onto Muirkirk Road and then make the first right onto the Montpelier grounds.


• In January and February, tours of the mansion are held Sundays at 1:15 and 2:15 p.m. From March to November, tours are every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., with the last tour beginning at 3:15. Group tours during the week can be arranged by appointment.

• The gift shop's hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

• Local storyteller Michael Fleming will tell "Stories of the Chesapeake" from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday for children ages 10 and older. Reservations are required.

• A George Washington Musicale featuring Irish, Scottish and American dance music and three-part harmony sung in the English pub tradition, will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 28.

• Afternoon teas are held every Friday at 3 p.m. for children 10 and older. The fee is $18, and reservations are required.
