PASADENA, Calif. Heartthrob actor Mel Gibson was honored twice Sunday night at the People's Choice Awards. Mr. Gibson won for motion picture star in a drama and the more general motion picture actor category. The 45-year-old Gibson beat out Tom Hanks, 44, and Denzel Washington, 46, who also were nominated in both categories.

Mr. Gibson's "The Patriot," Mr. Hanks' "The Green Mile," and Mr. Washington's "Remember the Titans" dominated the movie categories, with each gaining nominations for motion picture and dramatic motion picture. "The Green Mile" won the awards in both categories.

Veteran big-screen star Bette Midler won a People's Choice award for female performer in a new television series.

John Goodman also won for his performance in a new television series, but his show "Normal, Ohio" already has been canceled.

The NBC hospital series "ER" won best television drama for the eighth consecutive year.

Male Musical Performer: Garth Brooks.

Female Musical Performer: Faith Hill.

New Television Dramatic Series: "Dark Angel."

Reality-Based Television Program: "Survivor."
