From the Beltway, take Interstate 270 north toward Frederick, connect with Interstate 70 east and follow the signs for New Market.


Parking is free around town.


All shops are open on weekends; hours vary during the week. Restaurants are generally open Tuesdays through Sundays. Weekend hours vary from shop to shop.

• The General Store at 26 W. Main St. is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

• Village Tea Room at 81 W. Main St. is open from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

• Mealey's Restaurant at 8 W. Main St. is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Dinner is served from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from noon to 8 p.m. Sundays.


• Frederick offers many interesting shops and restaurants. Opening day for its minor-league baseball team, the Frederick Keys, is in early April. A craft fair takes place in mid-May; a festival of the arts is held in early June.

• Monocacy National Battlefield.

• Sugarloaf Mountain Park.
