Location: "Masters of the Ocean Realm: Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises" is a traveling exhibit on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. Street parking is limited around the museum on the Mall, which can be reached on Metro's Orange Line.

Admission: Free.

Hours: The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. The exhibit will be open through Jan. 2.

Special programs: Free presentations relating to the exhibit include "The Origins of Whales," in which paleontologist Mark Uhen will talk about the origins of early cetaceans (noon, Dec. 7), and "A Whale of a Day," a family festival featuring songs, seafaring tales, demonstrations and arts and crafts (11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 8).
