The National Zoological Park is at 3001 Connecticut Ave. NW. It is a short downhill walk from the Red Line's Cleveland Park Metro station. Expect an uphill climb if you exit at the Woodley Park/Zoo station.

Parking and admission:

Admission is free. Zoo parking costs up to $11 per day. For easy access to the Reptile Discovery Center, park in Lot B and walk downhill into the zoo. Follow the path until you reach the reptiles. Get there early. Zoo staff members say the parking lots fill up by 10 a.m. on weekends nearly year-round.


The zoo is open every day except Dec. 25. The grounds are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 1 through Sept. 15 and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 16 through April 30. The buildings are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 1 through Sept. 15 and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 16 through April 30.
