Linemates Ulf Dahlen and Steve Konowalchuk scored in the last minute of play last night, powering the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 victory over Boston in an exhibition game played in Portland, Maine.

It was the Caps' first win in four preseason games. It was the first loss for the Bruins, who started preseason 3-0.

Dahlen scored at 19:07 of the third on assists from Dmitri Khristich and Sylvain Cote as the Caps pulled goalie Sebastien Charpentier in favor of an extra attacker. Just 32 seconds later, with Boston trying to kill a penalty, Konowalchuk scored the game-winner on assists from Dahlen and rookie Brian Sutherby.

Joe Thornton scored for Boston, while Mike Farrell had a goal for Washington in the first period. Former Caps draftee Nick Boynton gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead in the second on a power play.

The fans at Cumberland County Civic Center cheered a pair of heavyweight bouts in the first period, with Washington's Stephen Peat and Boston's Andrei Nazarov splitting the fights.
