Reston, well-known for its Town Center, which draws hundreds of visitors each summer weekend to its outdoor concerts, movie theater and tempting restaurants, also has a reputation as one of Northern Virginia's most beautiful suburbs.

Homes are often surrounded by trees or overlook shimmering lakes, and joggers and strollers alike enjoy miles of paths that link the neighborhoods to local shopping centers. Tennis courts, swimming pools, soccer fields and more beckon people outdoors for most of the year.

A beautiful view is just one of the many attractions of the home now on the market for $785,000 at 1303 Stamford Way in Reston. Settled on a quiet cul-de-sac among elegant homes in North Reston, this home has a free-form heated swimming pool in the back yard surrounded by a redwood deck with towering trees framing the lot. A large deck off the breakfast area allows for entertaining and relaxing away from the pool, and walls of windows that form three sides of the two-story family room allow the view to become a focal point for the home in any season.

This home has been designed and decorated to accommodate a large family or one that enjoys entertaining overnight guests in one of the six bedrooms.

Four bedrooms share the upper level on either side of the gallery overlooking the foyer and family room, and two additional bedrooms are in the above-ground portion of the lower level.

Guests are welcomed in the two-story foyer, which is entered through stained-wood double doors. Ceramic tile flooring, crown moldings and a brass chandelier add elegance to the foyer, which also has two coat closets. From the foyer, the wide staircase rises to the gallery above, and the windows of the two-story family room can be seen.

The formal living room and formal dining room flank the foyer, and each has oak hardwood flooring and crown moldings. The living room also has a fireplace with a ceramic tile surround and a Colonial-style mantel. The dining room has a generously sized bay window and a crystal chandelier.

To the rear of the house, the family room has an oversized fireplace with a ceramic tile surround and a large mantel, plush carpeting, recessed lighting and a myriad of windows. The adjacent library features cherry hardwood flooring with a matching wet bar, bookcases and cabinets, along with French doors leading into the living room.

On the opposite side of the family room is the center-island kitchen, an open space with white-on-white appliances, ceramic tile flooring, a pot rack and ceiling fan overhead, a built-in desk, recessed lighting, and a large breakfast area. Nearby is the laundry room, which has ceramic tile flooring, a laundry sink and a closet. Access to the garage and an additional storage closet is also nearby.

Upstairs, the large master suite has vaulted ceilings, and the oversized bedroom has a three-side fireplace that warms the bedroom and sitting room. Attached to the bedroom is a large dressing room with a mirrored wall, two large walk-in closets and a linen closet. The bath includes a whirlpool tub, a glass-enclosed separate shower, a double vanity and a bidet.

On the same side of the gallery overlook as the master suite is a second generously sized bedroom with a private full bath and a nearby linen closet.

Across the gallery are two additional bedrooms that share a connecting bath with a double vanity. A large linen closet is in the hall between the two rooms.

The finished lower level expands both the entertaining and living space of this home, along with providing plenty of additional storage room. The main room on this level is the recreation room, which has a fireplace and doors to both the patio and pool. On either side of the recreation room are bedrooms, each with windows overlooking the swimming pool and patio. One of these bedrooms is currently used as a home office.

A full bath on this level serves both guests and residents.

Toward the front of this level is a large yet cozy media room or exercise room, with a sauna nearby. In addition, there are several closets and a large mechanical/storage room.

The owners have extensively upgraded this home for 21st-century media, with high-tech wiring; programmable thermostats; central wiring in the family room for a stereo system with speakers in the recreation room, family room, deck and patio; and an intercom system. Both cable and satellite TV serve the home. Three of the four fireplaces are wood-burning with gas starters for convenience, while the master bedroom has a gas fireplace.

With its high ceilings, multitude of windows and generosity of space, this Reston home awaits a large family or a small family with lots of friends and a desire to entertain lavishly. The neutral decor currently in the home allows for almost any style of furnishings that could complement the blend of the traditional exterior and the more modern interior.
