The Maryland men's basketball team will inaugurate Comcast Center officially Nov.24, when it opens the season against Miami of Ohio. The Terrapins' schedule released yesterday has 16 home games and includes intriguing non-conference contests with Indiana, Florida and Notre Dame.
The defending national champions will hold their first preseason game Nov.12 against the Harlem Globetrotters in the new 17,100-seat, on-campus facility. There will be a title game rematch with Indiana in Indianapolis on Dec.3. Maryland meets Notre Dame, with ex-Terp Danny Miller, on Dec.7 in the BB&T; Classic at MCI Center. And it will meet Texas a likely preseason top-10 choice or George Washington in the second game of the tournament.
Florida will be the biggest threat to the Terps' 84-game non-conference home winning streak when it visits Comcast on Dec.14 for a nationally televised game. Maryland opens the ACC season at home Dec.29 against Georgia Tech. The Terps renew their rivalry with Duke on Jan.18 in College Park and travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Feb.19.
Maryland lost four starters from its championship team but should begin the season ranked in the top 20. Starting point guard Steve Blake is back, along with key reserves in shooting guard Drew Nicholas, power forward Tahj Holden and center Ryan Randle.
