• "The Complete Single Mother," by Andrea Engber and Leah Klungness, Adams Media Corp., 2000. This book offers answers to such challenging questions and dilemmas as how to talk about an absent father, balancing work and family, sex and dating, and time and money management.

• "The Single Father: A Dad's Guide to Parenting Without a Partner," by Armin A. Brott, Abbeville Press, 1999. The author gives single fathers the knowledge, skills and support they need to become and remain actively involved parents.

• "Surviving Single Parenting," by Dawn Isenhart, IUniverse Inc., 2000. Whether one is a single mother or single father, the basic principles of this book offer inspiration and wisdom in learning how to strengthen yourself, deal with your emotions, be aware of your child's feelings and structure your life as a single parent.

• "Parenting That Works: Building Skills That Last a Lifetime," by Edward Christophersen and Susan Mortweet, American Psychological Association, 2002. The authors provide parents with effective ways to raise a child to become a happy, compassionate and confident adult.


• Solo Parents Network (www.soloparentsnetwork.com), a not-for-profit site created and maintained by several single parents, is an online social club dedicated to making healthy changes and relationships. Features include message and discussion boards for single parents.

• Making Lemonade, the Single Parent Network (https://makinglemonade.com) is another site created by a single mother. It features links and information, chat rooms and support groups.

• Single Parent Central (www.singleparentcentral.com) includes a "single dad corner" and resources and information on such single-parent issues as government resources, statistics and facts, dating, positive discipline and dealing with child care problems.
