Seen and heard last night at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis:
THE MARSHALL PLAN: Indiana freshman Marshall Strickland is a native of Winfield, Md., and played for South Carroll High School. His sister, Marche Strickland, was a star on Maryland's women's team before finishing her career last season. She is the Terrapins' all-time leading 3-pointer shooter, and was drafted in the WNBA in the fourth round (63rd overall) by the Cleveland Rockers. Marshall Strickland was initially recruited by Maryland before opting for the Hoosiers.
A DISH TO REMEMBER: With his fourth assist, Maryland point guard Steve Blake entered the NCAA's top 25 all-time list in the category. The point guard moved past former Stanford star Brevin Knight, who had 780 before ending his career in 1997. Ex-Michigan State standout Mateen Cleaves is 20th on the list with 816.
FROM PARADISE TO PLAIN ICE: The Hoosiers spent last week basking in the sun in Hawaii while winning the Maui Invitational. This week, they are shivering as a cold snap blankets the Midwest. High temperatures in Indianapolis were in the high 20s, and wind chills last night dropping into single digits.
