Seen and heard last night at MCI Center:
WHITNEY GETS RECORD A first-quarter 3-pointer by Washington Wizards guard Chris Whitney gave him the franchise career record with 411. Whitney, who was first signed to a 10-day contract by the Wizards in March 1996 and is now in his seventh season, passed Tracy Murray, who canned 410 in 280 games from 1996 to 2000.
BUT IS HE A TOUGH GRADER? The game marked the halfway point of the season for the Wizards in the NBA's 82-game season. Asked to grade his team's performance, coach Doug Collins quickly said, "A-plus. We've won one more game than all of last year." Then, with a smile, he added, "I'm a good teacher."
