Prince George's County police early yesterday chased a shooting suspect into the District, where he crashed into a car, killing three women, before he escaped.
D.C. police sent a police helicopter to search over the Northeast community but had not found the suspect last night.
Prince George's police said the man repeatedly shot a 31-year-old man about 5:15 a.m. in an apparent robbery attempt in the 500 block of 62nd Avenue in Fairmont Heights, just outside the District.
The victim, whose name was not released because he is a witness, was reported in critical condition. Police Cpl. Joe Merkle said the suspect will be charged with assault with intent to murder.
Police chased the suspect into the District on Field Place, then on to 58th Street and Burroughs Avenue in Northeast. The suspect's dark blue Chevrolet Caprice slammed into a car driven by Michelle Rene Brown, 27.
D.C. police said she was killed along with her passengers, Lashawn Dennise Willis, 30, and Tabitha White, 19, all from the 6400 block of Hil-Mar Drive in Forestville.
A third car was involved in the crash, but the driver was not seriously hurt.
When the suspect is captured, he faces second-degree murder charges, D.C. police said.
