Directions: The Folger Shakespeare Library is at 201 E. Capitol St. SE, one block from the U.S. Capitol, between Second and Third streets. The closest Metro stops are Union Station on the Red line and Capitol South on the Orange and Blue lines.

Hours: The library is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It is closed Sundays and federal holidays.

Admission: Free.

Tours: Tours are offered at 11 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturdays. The tours are free, and no reservations are necessary. Children's tours that feature a scavenger hunt also are available.

Of note:

• A mix of plants mentioned in Shakespeare's work is in the on-site garden. Free garden tours are available at 10 and 11 a.m. the third Saturday of the month from April to October.

• The Elizabethan Theatre offers productions, readings and concerts. The reading room is available for research by special permission.

• The Folger features a museum shop with books, artwork and other Shakespeare-era replicas.
