Directions: To get to Great Falls National Park in Great Falls, Va., take exit 44 (Route 193/Georgetown Pike) west from the Beltway. Turn right at Old Dominion Drive, then go straight one mile to the entrance station.

Hours: The park is open every day except Dec. 25 from 7 a.m. until dark. The visitor center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Admission: Entry to the park is $5 per vehicle (good for three days) or $3 per person on foot, horse, bicycle or motorcycle (good for three days). Annual passes are $20.

Parking: Free and available.

Special programs: The "History of Great Falls" slide show and ranger talks are available daily. A bird-watching group meets Sundays at 8 a.m. Ranger-guided, 30-minute walks of the Falls Walk trail usually meet weekends at 1 p.m. Other special programs including children's nature programs, wildflower walks, rock studies and scavenger hunts are scheduled monthly. Check with the visitor center for complete schedule.

Note: There is a small bookstore inside the visitor center and a snack bar outside on the ground floor. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the park. Visitor Center and Overlook No. 2 (about 200 yards away) are handicapped accessible.
