OVIEDO, Spain (AFP) — Film director Woody Allen yesterday was awarded The Prince of Asturias Prize, one of Spain's most prestigious arts prizes, the award committee said.
Mr. Allen's "work as a writer, screenwriter, actor, and director expressed in 32 films have made him a key player" in the history of cinema, the committee said.
Mr. Allen said in a statement that he was "honored, undeserving but delighted, that this award comes from a country as wonderful as Spain and from the Spanish people, who are so responsive to my work."
U.S. playwright Arthur Miller is this year's winner for literature.
