On the edge of the Tysons Corner business and retail corridor, just off Route 7 and Lewinsville Road, is an elegant development of formal homes known as the Stanley Martin Cos.' McLean Hundred.

The luxurious homes of this community surround a charming park of rolling hills with a gazebo and benches where residents relax and visit with each other.

Children are found in great abundance in McLean Hundred, where many homes include playground equipment in the back yards and soccer games are frequently enjoyed in the park.

In addition to the suburban atmosphere in the neighborhood, the homes often enjoy a city-style night sky full of the lights of Tysons Corner's high-rises. Vienna's beloved Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts is minutes away, providing a concert and theater venue all summer along with an indoor concert hall for the colder months.

The home at 1471 Mayhurst Blvd. in McLean Hundred, now on the market for $964,500, has more than 6,200 square feet of finished living space inside a recently reclad gray exterior made of a stuccolike product called an Exterior Insulation Finish System. White trim creates a crisp look in contrast with the gray, and professional landscaping maintained by a sprinkler system adds to the elegance of this home. An asphalt drive leads to the side-entry three-car garage.

The front of the home faces the community park, while the back includes a two-level deck for entertaining and relaxing, along with yard space for children's play or other outdoor activities. The two-level deck is accessible from the kitchen and includes stairs to the back yard. Guests can be welcomed on the flagstone front stoop, which is covered by a columned portico.

Inside, the floor plan offers a blend of traditional and contemporary features, with Colonial-style trim around the doors and windows and an open floor plan at the front of the house. A grand two-story foyer opens onto a dramatic curving stairway to the second level. The formal living room and formal dining room are open spaces on either side of the foyer, with decorative columns used to define the rooms. Ceramic tile flooring gleams in all of these rooms.

The less formal living areas across the back of the house include a private library in one corner, with large windows and atrium doors leading into the hall. Nearby, a sunken family room with 10-foot-high ceilings includes a gas fireplace with a brick hearth, a coffered ceiling, a ceiling fan and multiple windows.

An oversized kitchen and breakfast area are next to the family room, with a dramatically large granite center island with cabinets below and an area for barstools for casual meals and relaxing with friends. The kitchen includes ceramic tile flooring, cherry cabinets, Corian counters, a built-in china buffet and an adjacent butler's pantry with 42-inch glass-front cabinets. The appliances are top-of-the-line, and a large walk-in pantry provides excellent storage. Nearby are a sunny laundry room with a window, a mudroom leading into the garage, and a rear staircase to the upper level.

Perhaps the most luxurious part of the home is the master bedroom suite, which has been designed as a private retreat from the rest of the house. Double doors open onto the sunny master suite sitting room, which has a double-door closet. On one side of the sitting room is the large bedroom, which has a coffered ceiling and a ceiling fan. The master bath is a huge space with marbleized 12-by-12-inch tile flooring, a Jacuzzi whirlpool bath under a window framing some Tysons Corner skyscrapers, and a ceramic tile shower with a seat and a glass door. The bathroom includes two separate vanities with double-mirrored medicine cabinets, a bidet, a commode and brass fixtures. A laundry chute conveniently drops from here into the first-floor laundry room. A double-size walk-in closet is just off the master bath.

The second bedroom upstairs includes a private full bath and a walk-in closet. Two more bedrooms share a connecting bath. One of these bedrooms has a walk-in closet, while the other has a double-door closet along one wall.

The lower level has been partially finished, with a huge unfinished storage area that runs the length of the house to accommodate anyone's storage needs. Nine-foot ceilings on this level and a walk-out to the back yard make the finished portions of this floor sunny and functional. The recreation room has been left open but could be divided, if desired, into an exercise room and media room.

An au-pair or guest suite at one end of this level includes a large bedroom and a walk-in closet. The adjacent full bath has been designed to be accessible directly from the bedroom or from the recreation room.

Other amenities in this home include custom-designed window treatments, four ceiling fans, a central vacuum system and a security system. Programmable thermostats and dual-zone heat and air conditioning add to owner comfort.
