Whoever thought church was reserved for Sundays was mistaken. Thursday night, the Winans Family created enough rejoicing to last an entire week.

As the first family of gospel music, the Winans 13 of them made a joyful noise as they brought their "Together We Stand" tour to DAR Constitution Hall. The cast of performers included the Winans, Cece Winans, Bebe Winans, Mom and Pop, Daniel Winans, Angie and Debbie, and Winans Phase 2.

The evening opened with Mom Winans singing "An Affair to Remember" onstage by herself. One thinks that she could sing jazz as well as gospel.

Bebe and Cece followed her with their song "Heaven." Cece donned incredible outfits the entire evening, such as the yellow dress she wore during this song. Although each of these two Winans has a successful solo career, there is nothing like seeing the brother-and-sister duo together. Later in the set, they also performed their R&B Top 40 hits "Addictive Love" and "Lost Without You."

Although Angie and Debbie may be a lesser-known duo, their talent is just as strong as that of Bebe and Cece. The sisters presented their songs "I Believe" and "The Lord's Prayer."

The Winans Marvin, Carvin and Ronald sang some of their best-known numbers, including "The Question Is" and "Ain't No Need to Worry." Even more impressive was the talent of the up-and-coming family members in Winans Phase 2: Juan, Carvin III and Marvin Jr. Their high voices rang clearly throughout the concert hall as they made dance moves that reminded the audience of the Jackson 5.

After intermission, Pop Winans and Daniel Winans sang their own version of Sam Cooke's "You Send Me," saying "Lord, if you would send me, I'll go." Apparently, Mr. Cooke's friendship influenced Pop Winans' musical style.

Then the family gathered on the risers onstage to take requests from the audience. One can only imagine what it must have been like to grow up in a household with such musical talent. One envisions them sitting in the living room sharing songs.

Later, Bebe took the stage to perform "Coming Back Home" with members of Winans Phase 2. It was recorded originally with Brian McKnight and Joe. Cece also performed some of her solo songs, such as "Anybody Wanna Pray," saying, "It's time to pray."

The closing number, "Together We Stand," featured the whole family in a patriotic number that says, "Together we stand/Divided we fall/Let's build a bridge/Tear down these walls/Let us respond to our brother's call."
