Location: The Bead Museum DC is at 400 Seventh St. NW, Washington, a few minutes' walk from the Smithsonian museums on the Mall.

Cost: Admission is free.

Hours: The Bead Museum is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The museum is closed on major holidays.

Parking and Metro: Metered street parking is available, as are spaces in nearby, but expensive, underground lots a 1.5-hour visit in the lot next to Kinko's costs $14 in parking fees. The museum is convenient to the Archives/Navy Memorial and the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro stations.

Exhibits and programs: The Bead Museum mounts a fresh rotating exhibit every six to eight months, in addition to its permanent collection. The museum plays host to a Family Fun Day several times a year; the next scheduled date for this event is 1 to 4 p.m. May 19.
