A Likely Story hosts story times for children 2 years old and younger at 11 a.m. Tuesdays and for children 3 years old and older at 11 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. Many other special events are featured as well; check listings in the store or online at www.alikelystorybooks.com. Directions: Take Interstate 395 to King Street toward Old Town.

• Aladdin's Lamp, 126 W. Broad St., Falls Church; 703/241-8281. The store holds story times at 11 a.m. Wednesday and Saturday for children ages 2 1/2 to 6. Directions: From the Beltway, take Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) east. Follow it to Broad Street.

• Imagination Station, 4524 Lee Highway, Arlington; 703/522-2047. Story time is 10 a.m. Friday. Directions: Take Route 66 to Spout Run. Make a right on Route 29, a left on Lorcom Lane and a right on Lee Highway.

• Large bookstores such as Barnes & Noble and Borders also have free story times. Check with your local store for days and times.
