A winding road through a community filled with large custom-built homes leads to a stunning, six-bedroom house on a cul-de-sac at 3309 Short Ridge Lane in Bowie. On an acre and a half in the Woodmore neighborhood, this home is showcase material and reflects great pride of ownership inside and out.

Woodmore is a gated community with a 67-acre lake. The manicured greens and fairways of a tournament class golf course meander through the community.

The neighborhood comprises single-family homes on large lots, as well as several villages of attached homes. When complete, Woodmore will be home to 398 select single-family residences within its 799 wooded acres.

There is a lot of activity in the community, most of which is oriented around the country club at Woodmore a private, member-owned facility with world-class golf, swimming and tennis facilities. The club also boasts an elegantly appointed clubhouse and a first-class restaurant.

A scenic walkway through mature colorful trees and bushes, four tall columns at the entrance and double doors with stained glass provide a stately entry for the unique home on Short Ridge Lane.

Inside, the large, open foyer with Italian marble floors neatly flows into the dining room and hints at the luxury and space to come in this 8,500-square-foot home. High ceilings and crown moldings are prominently featured in most rooms.

The two-story dining room has windows all the way up to the 20-foot ceiling and faces the wooded rear yard, with plenty of room for holiday gatherings. It features a marble floor, chair-rail molding and a chandelier. Two sets of French doors in the dining room lead to the foyer and the kitchen.

On one side of the foyer is a large den with wood floors. A sloped ceiling with high windows allows light to freely flow in this relaxing room.

Across the wide foyer is a more formal sitting area. All of the professionally installed window treatments throughout the home convey to the new owners.

The kitchen's layout makes it easy to prepare meals and entertain in the nearby family room at the same time. The kitchen has two sinks, one white enamel and the other stainless steel, and a center-island cooktop. A large breakfast area with windows offers views of the rear yard and deck.

The kitchen also has a breakfast bar with room for several stools.

Cherry cabinetry, along with a cherry-paneled refrigerator and Corian counters, gives the kitchen a majestic look. Also in the kitchen are a double oven, pantry and work-space desk. This house also offers a large, climate-controlled wine cellar.

From the kitchen, you can step down into the carpeted family room and sit by the marble gas fireplace on cold winter nights.

French doors welcome you into the master suite, which is on the main level. The bedroom has a sitting area and walk-in closet. A surprise toward the back of the room is a wooden staircase with white spindles that leads to the second-story loft. This loft can be used as an additional sitting room, office or nursery. The master bath features black Italian marble floors, a tub and large separate shower with double shower heads.

Choose any one of three stairways, in the master suite, foyer or kitchen hall, to access the four bedrooms on the second level. One of the rooms features a walkout balcony offering a picturesque view of the front yard. Two of the bedrooms have their own full bath, and a large shared bathroom joins the remaining two rooms. Each of the bathrooms has ceramic tiled floors. All are tastefully wallpapered.

The main staircase treats guests to a dramatic overlook, where they will truly appreciate the home's soaring ceilings and walls of windows. A circular landing halfway down functions as a balcony overlooking the dining area.

The finished lower level, encompassing about 2,500 square feet, is almost like another home in itself. It spans the full length of the house and includes an exercise area with mirrored walls, a marble gas fireplace, wet bar and recreation room. Additional space in this level could be used as an in-law suite, theater room or playroom for children.

The bedroom on this level has been soundproofed to offer a quiet place for the teen music lover or the drummer in the family.

Outside is a three-level deck, complete with built-in benches. One section of the deck is screened in and boasts a vaulted ceiling with skylights and a ceiling fan. Screens were also installed underneath the deck to prevent insects from crawling through the spaces between the wood slats.

The current owners are willing to negotiate regarding a hot tub on the bottom portion of the deck and a sauna in the basement. The landscaping is well maintained with help from an in-ground sprinkler system. The house also includes an intercom system, humidifier, central vacuum system and zoned temperature control.
