The series of random sniper shootings in the metropolitan area has prompted public school officials across the region to cancel some extracurricular activities over the weekend.

•Montgomery County schools canceled all outdoor student and community activities through the weekend, but all indoor student and community activities will continue.

•D.C. schools canceled all interscholastic sports, games and other school-related activities, but indoor practices will be held. All recess activities, field trips, open lunch periods and other outdoor activities are suspended until further notice.

•Prince George's County schools canceled all after-school and evening activities for students. Practices for athletic activities will be held indoors today. An announcement about the football games will be made tomorrow.

•Fairfax County schools canceled all outdoor activities, including interscholastic games and practices. Recess is moved indoors or canceled, and field trips within the metropolitan area are canceled until Tuesday, when the situation will be reassessed. Indoor activities, including SAT testing, sports practices, dances and craft fairs, will be held.

•Arlington County schools suspended all outdoor activities through Monday evening. Canceled events include all outdoor school-day activities, recesses and field trips; all after-school outdoor activities, practices and athletic events; and all weekend outdoor games and activities scheduled for this weekend.

•Prince William County schools canceled all outside activities and all after-school and evening activities, indoor and outdoor. Schools will be open Monday, but all sports events, night-school classes, staff development activities and field trips in the metropolitan area have been canceled.

•Alexandria schools canceled all outdoor activities through Monday, including the T.C. Williams High School football game that had been scheduled for today.

•Spotsylvania County schools canceled all school activities this weekend, including field trips, homecoming dances and SAT tests.

•Catholic schools will follow the operation guidelines of their local public school jurisdiction. Catholic schools in the District will follow Prince George's County schools' guidelines.
