Those who crave ghost stories and legends outside the D.C. area don't have far to look. Several ghost tours are within an easy drive. These tours will be available through the weekend, and the Gettsyburg tours continue into mid-November at least. (Call to check availability after that.)
Gettysburg, Pa. Ghosts of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking Tours include three ghost walks, all starting between 6:30 and 9:45 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations required. $6 adults. Children 7 and younger free. Call 717/337-0445 or see www.ghostsofgettysburg.com.
Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Walking tours every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. $3. Call 304/725-8019 for start times and more information.
Old Town Alexandria Doorways to Virginia tours Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and 9 p.m., Sundays at 7:30 p.m. $6 (cash only). Buy tickets at the office at 221 King St., where the tours begin. The tours last about an hour, cover a six-block area and are led by a costumed tour guide.
