Location: The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is at 48 E. Patrick St., Frederick, Md.

Directions: Take the Beltway to Interstate 270 north. Take Route 15 north at the Route 15-Interstate 70 split. Take the South Jefferson Street (Route 340 east) exit. Proceed three-quarters of a mile on South Jefferson. Turn right on West South Street, then left on East Patrick Street.

Parking: A public parking garage is on the left side of East Patrick, immediately past the museum. Parking also is available at meters on the street.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. The museum closes at 4 p.m. from November through March. It is closed New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Admission: $6.50 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4.50 for children 10 to 16, free for children 9 and younger.

Tours: Available by advance request.

Notes: The museum could be part of a larger exploration of area Civil War sites. The museum has taken care to make the memorabilia and scenes less gory than they could be, but the nature of the exhibit may make it unsuitable for very young children.
