Seen and heard last night at MCI Center:

SECOND ROUND — Mike Gartner, Bengt Gustafsson and Mike Ridley have been chosen as the best forwards during the Caps’ second decade in fan balloting on the team’s Web site. Rod Langway and Scott Stevens were chosen as the defensemen for that period with Don Beaupre selected as the top goalie. Nearly 2,000 fans voted.

The top 30 selections as chosen by fans will be finalists for the Caps’ all-time starting team, with fans choosing the top six players.

Players picked for the first-decade team were forwards Bob Carpenter, Denis Maruk and Ryan Walter, with Yvon Labre and Rick Green on defense and Al Jensen in goal.

SEMIN BACK HOME — Left wing Alexander Semin has returned to Russia to participate in that country’s training camp for the IIHF World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Semin is one of six Caps prospects who have been invited by their countries to try out for national teams. Others include Maryland native Stephen Werner; Patrick Blomdahl and Andreas Valdix, Sweden; and Maxime Daigneault and Eric Fehr, Canada.
