Seen and heard last night at AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami:

OH, WHAT A KNIGHT — Jared Jeffries is not surprised when Bob Knight goes off, as he did the other day. The Texas Tech coach gave an expletive-laced answer to a question during an interview with him and Iowa coach Steve Alford before a game between their teams.

“That’s just the way Coach is,” said Jeffries, who never played for Knight but was recruited by him at Indiana. “He’s not a bad guy. But he’s not going to let anyone interviewing him have their way with him. He’s going to speak his mind no matter what,”

So was he surprised? “No,” Jeffries said. “I didn’t play for him but he was one of the main reasons why I went to Indiana. I believe that he is a good man at heart.”

HOLIER THAN THOU — Wizards forward Christian Laettner has let his hair grow out this season. Some have joked he resembles some depictions of Jesus Christ.

Laettner laughed this off before the game. “It’s a joke and it’s funny,” Laettner said. “I don’t know what to say about it. A few of the depictions that I have seen, I might look like him. But, really, who knows what Jesus looked like?”

Laettner is one of the most reviled players in the league and is almost always booed during player introductions. “People have called me a lot of things when my hair is long,” he said. “Some are good, some are bad. I try to think about the ones that call me Jesus more often than some of the other things they call me.”
