One meandering road that passes colossal custom homes in Mitchellville leads to an exquisitely designed gated estate.

A decorative wrought-iron fence borders the house and comes with a gate at the front entrance that opens only for the homeowners and their invited guests, who approach the home via a landscaped circular drive.

Built two years ago, the home at 12304 Longwater Drive has a striking light brown brick exterior topped by a multifaceted hip roof. Balconies and terraces provide vantage points to overlook a 1-acre lot and a lake in the back yard.

At the double-door entry of the $2.8 million home is a covered porch with six columns supporting a balcony with French doors.

Upon entry, guests can choose to step down into the chic living room, step up into the formal dining room or walk straight ahead toward the airy two-story breakfast room.

A neutral-color marble floor with inlaid accents and a sweeping wooden staircase with white spindles make the foyer a grand place to welcome company.

All of the rooms in the home are large and can comfortably fit large pieces of furniture. Yet it is the architectural details and bright contemporary paint that give the home a more intimate feel.

The living room walls are painted in an orange tone, which plays well against the rich Brazilian cherry-wood floors. Three tall windows with a sunburst design and two wall sconces help flood the room with light.

From the living room, curved wooden stairs lead into a hall to the family room. A second stairway steps back up into the foyer.

A creative hallway is lined with four columns on both sides. Curves are echoed throughout the home and can be seen shaping entryways, steps, windows and even the family room fireplace.

The large family room finds its warmth by a brick fireplace. Red walls give the room a burst of color. The room also sports a wide-screen-television niche.

Another columned, arched step-up entrance leads into the kitchen. This room has attractive granite countertops and marble floors to match the foyer.

The homeowner selected the top-of-the-line appliances from various manufacturers to create a commercial-style kitchen. The stainless-steel appliances include a Sub-Zero refrigerator, six-burner stove and dishwasher.

Cherry cabinetry takes center stage in this kitchen, where the upper portion of the cabinets features glass doors and built-in lighting. Designer pendant lights hang over the island, which is also home to a handy second sink.

The two-story breakfast room can accommodate both casual and formal dining.

The table sits within an extra-sunny breakfast bay and has French doors that open onto the veranda. Brick columns and a stamped-concrete design highlight the 3,300-square-foot wraparound veranda, which also has a hot tub and a view of the lake.

In the front of the home, there is a classy dining room, ideal for more formal occasions and spacious enough to accommodate grand-scale entertaining. Four-piece crown molding, recessed lights and a chic chandelier provide elegance; convenience is furnished by built-in serving hutches with glass shelves on both sides of the doorway.

Anchoring one end of the house is a massive home office with a separate exit to the veranda.

Both the front and rear staircases lead to the second level.

The long hallway that connects the five bedrooms upstairs overlooks the breakfast room and foyer.

A set of double doors in the hall reveals a balcony with an arched ceiling looking onto the front of the home. Deep art niches with lights decorate either side of the doors.

The master bedroom features a raised sleeping area with a tray ceiling highlighted by recessed lights and a ceiling fan, as well as an oversized sitting room with space for an L-shaped couch, cocktail table and large television.

The walk-in closet and dressing room have built-in shelves and spaces to organize just about every clothing item and accessory.

The master bath features a two-sided fireplace that warms the large step-up whirlpool tub, as well as the bedroom. This completely marbled bath boasts a two-person steam shower, bidet and its own private balcony.

The other bedrooms have ample closet space. Two of them come with full bathrooms.

One of the rooms on the opposite end of the hall is a guest bedroom suite with its own private family room, full bathroom with an oval tub and cozy sleeping quarters.

Also on this end of the home is a large laundry room with a sink and white cabinets, as well as access to the rear staircase.

In addition to the grand entertaining rooms and stylish family spaces on the first two floors, the lower level features four distinct spaces, each exuding fun and sophistication.

At the basement’s entrance is a wet bar with a marble floor and coordinating marble counter. The bar comfortably seats six persons and has a built-in wine rack and mirrored wall with glass shelves.

A playful football-field carpet design stands out in the recreation room, with its brick fireplace, a room with plenty of space for a billiards table and other games.

Just off the recreation area is a home movie theater with elevated floors, wall sconces and a speaker wall for maximum sound.

The finishing touch to a home that seems to have everything is the clover-shaped heated indoor pool and Jacuzzi. Although the pool is just steps away, it is actually separate from the main house, including ventilation, and can be enjoyed all year long. The pool area features exposed brick, a wall of windows with privacy shades and a stone surround.

This home exudes style and upscale luxury in Woodmore, a gated golf-course community that also touts its own country club complete with swimming and tennis.
