Seen and heard last night at RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.:
WEATHER ADVISORY Two busloads of Caps fans made the trek south for the game against the Carolina Hurricanes, apparently fully aware of what the weather would be like on the trip home.
National weather reports say the Washington area may get up to 14 inches of snow by tomorrow night. The Caps will be basking in the Sunshine State for the next several days. They play in Sunrise, Fla., tonight and in Tampa on Monday.
The Caps' next home game is Thursday against Toronto.
GETTING STARTED Left wing Ryan Bayda made his NHL debut for the Hurricanes as the struggling team taps youngsters off the farm to fill holes and get a long look at the major league level.
SLAP SHOTS Caps defenseman Calle Johansson turned 36. Jaromir Jagr turns 31 today. … Last night was just the 11th time in 58 games this season Carolina has led at the end of the first period.
