Seen and heard yesterday at Comcast Center:
DRINK UP A large bottle of tabasco sauce sits prominently in guard Calvin McCall's locker. It seems Maryland's hot starts may come from pregame meals.
"I like to put tabasco sauce on everything," McCall said. "But it's just for me, not anybody else. They have to get their own."
McCall was pretty hot himself against Florida State. He scored 10 points, one short of his career best, with six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. He even led a 13-0 run by scoring seven points.
WHO DID IT? Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton is no Sherlock Holmes. After Seminoles forward Anthony Richardson was fouled, Hamilton yelled, "Somebody fouled somebody." Seems elementary.
JAMAR OUT Forward Jamar Smith was away for his grandfather's funeral. He's expected back when Maryland plays at Wake Forest on Wednesday.
TICKETS ANYONE? It must be ACC season when ticket scalpers are in the parking lot. The first scalpers of the year approached passersby. Just wait until Duke comes to town Saturday. Expect a circus-like atmosphere.
HONORARY CAPTAINS Former teammates Jerry Bechtle and Billy Murphy were honored before the game. Bechtle (1957-60) and Murphy (1957-59) played on the 1958 ACC championship team that earned Maryland its first trip to the NCAA tournament.
