WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (UPI) — Innova Inc. of Davenport, Iowa, Tuesday recalled 8,700 Ultrex thermal-double wall frying pans because they can explode or separate when preheating, used on the high heat, or used for frying.

Inova said it has received 16 reports of pans exploding, leading to burn injuries to two consumers and eight reports of property damage.

The recalled plans come in four sizes: 8-inch omelet, 8-inch fry pan, 9 1/2-inch fry pan with buffet handles and lid, and 11 1/2-inch deep chicken fryer with stick handle and lid. The pans are stainless steel with black, non-stick coating.

The pans were sold by the Home Shopping Network between October 2001 and September 2002 for $20 to $50 individually and for $150 to $300 as a set.

Consumers are advised to stop using the pans immediately. A recall notice is being mailed to consumers, outlining how to receive a free replacement. For more information, call 800-845-7447 or visit the HSN Web site, hsn.com.

Separately, Amendt Corp. of Monroe, Mich., recalled 18.5-ounce boxes of white cake mix sold under the County Fare and BakerGirl brands because they may contain non-fat dry milk and egg whites not listed on the ingredient label.

The recalled cake mix was distributed nationwide and bears expiration dates of Sept. 20, 2002, through Dec. 31, 2003.

The company said it has received one report of an allergic reaction stemming from the cake mix. Consumers are advised to discard the product and return the box top to Amend Corp. in exchange for a replacement product.
