KUWAIT CITY, Jan. 21 (UPI) — The American civilians who were shot here on Tuesday morning in a vehicle have been identified by Kuwaiti security sources as Maikel Rene 51, who was killed, and David Caroy, 47, wounded.

The director of security of the Governorate of Kuwait City, Brig. Mahmud al-Dusayri, told the Kuwait news agency that the wounded man was being treated in Al-Razi hospital.

The incident took place at the intersection of Al-Judayliyat and the coastal Abu Dhabi Street en route to the U.S. military's Camp Doha.

Al-Dusayri said that the weapon used in the incident was a Kalashnikov and the cartridges were found in the car used by the two Americans.

A Kuwaiti security source said that eyewitnesses were being questioned. He added that the Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, Shaykh Muhammad al-Khalid al-Sabah, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Lt. Gen. Nasir al-Uthman, had rushed to the scene of the incident.

American military sources told the Kuwait news agency that investigations were in progress, but they gave no details.
