Seen and heard yesterday at MCI Center:

ALL-STAR SCUTTLEBUTT Wizards coach Doug Collins wants Michael Jordan at the All-Star Game in Atlanta next month but under one circumstance.

"I don't want him to play 22 minutes like he did last year, but you try to chain him down.

"But sure, I definitely want Michael there. Michael should be at the All-Star Game. Michael Jordan has put a lot of money in a lot of people's pockets, and he needs to be at the All-Star Game for what he's done for this league, not only with championships but with what he's done in terms of the marketability of this game, how people view the NBA and the athletes.

"I'd like to see Michael and David Robinson there. They are class, and they represent the league at the highest level."

Jordan has said if he is not elected he would prefer to skip the game, and he does not want the NBA to create a spot on the team if he is not elected.

"I would not want them to do that," Jordan said. "If I can't make it on the merits of 12 players per team, obviously I don't want to create a 13th spot. I don't feel comfortable with that one."

WIZARDS REUNION Juwan Howard is the most notable former Wizard on the Denver roster (and in a show of typical tastelessness by the fans at MCI Center, he was booed often), but guard Chris Whitney spent seven years as a Wizard/Bullet after signing a 10-day contract in 1995.

The Wizards released Whitney during training camp because of a numbers/age game with Juan Dixon and Tyronn Lue. Whitney, on the injured list (left ankle), still took time before the game to participate in the Wizards' Read to Achieve program along with Jerry Stackhouse.
