Location: The U.S. Geological Survey Visitors Center is located at 119 National Center in Reston.

Directions: Take the Beltway to the Dulles Toll Road to Reston Parkway. Go south on Reston Parkway to South Lakes Drive. Turn right on South Lakes and proceed to the USGS, a half-mile down on the right.

Admission: Free

Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily

Parking: Free, but visitors must obtain a parking pass at the guard booth and park in a designated lot.

Tours: The best way to experience the USGS is by scheduling a tour. Tours usually are given from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from September to May. Self-guided tours are available any day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Note: The USGS will appeal to students in about third grade and above. The USGS is a federal building, so be prepared to go through security measures. The USGS operates summer science day camps through the Reston Association for children ages 8 to 12.
