COMPTOM, Calif., Jan. 26 (UPI) — Young Dino Santos was reported safe Sunday afternoon, nearly 12 hours after a car thief reportedly sped off in a Honda Accord with the 10-month-old Southern California boy fast asleep in the back seat.

The youngster was still in the back seat of the 1990 Honda Accord when it was found abandoned in a restaurant parking lot in Norwalk.

Dino had been the subject of an "Amber Alert" issued shortly after 1 a.m. PST when someone apparently took off in the car, which had been parked in Compton with the engine running while Dino's father went to a friend's house to pick up his wife and other child.

The car's basic description and plate number were displayed Sunday on highway message boards and on television broadcasts throughout the Los Angeles area. It was not immediately known if a tip generated by the Amber Alert led deputies to the missing car.
