The Rover would like to send out kudos to the two best T-shirts on display at the Fiesta Bowl. A gaggle of Miami fans was spotted yesterday sporting shirts bearing the single word "'Caneiac" above the Miami logo. The Ohio State sloganmeisters bettered their southern counterparts, however, with shirts bearing the phrase, "The Bucks Stop it Here." Underneath the words was an aerial shot of Sun Devil Stadium with the Ohio State 'O' at midfield and a tiny, green 34-1 in the center.

Some twisted Florida State soul still holds the Hall of Fame slogan slot, however, with this quarterback-inspired creation for the 1999 FSU-Florida game: "Our Weinke is bigger than your Johnson."

Reason No.121 why we need a college football playoff: The bowls have been absolutely unwatchably dull this season. What a slate of laughers. Only six of the first 26 bowls this season were decided by a touchdown or less and the average margin has been 15.3 points. The Rover blames this on team apathy in many cases (see Wake Forest over Oregon!). For most major programs anything less than a BCS appearance is a disappointment to players and fans. A playoff would bring back the intensity.

Our quote of the day comes from the usually snooze-worthy Jim Tressel, who was asked if he was overwhelmed when he walked into a room filled with several hundred reporters and three dozen video cameras yesterday:

"I don't know if I'd call it overwhelmed," deadpanned the second-year Ohio State coach. "I mean I didn't fall over on my way to the podium."
