Overlooking a lake in Darnestown, elegance prevails inside and outside this custom brick Colonial home on a lush 2-acre lot on a cul-de-sac.

Beyond the decorative brick-walled, tree-lined entrance is an attractive circular driveway enhanced by an island planter and fountain. A flagstone walkway leads to the columned entrance of the 7,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, seven-bath home.

Offered at $1,995,000, the house is impressive inside and out. Greeting visitors is an open, two-story marble foyer with an arched window above the entry doors and a grand crystal chandelier with a motorized lift.

The foyer also features a curved, free-standing oak staircase. From the foyer, guests are treated to a peek straight ahead into the great room, which has a lake view.

On opposite sides of the foyer are posh living and dining rooms. Both rooms have red oak hardwood floors, crown molding and recessed lights.

Columns offer a stately entrance into the living room with a gas fireplace and beautiful Austrian crystal wall sconces.

Austrian crystal is found in the formal dining room also in the form of a lavish chandelier. This dining room with built-in speakers is well-appointed. Three wall-mounted mirrors enhance the room’s spaciousness, and custom window treatments, wainscoting and an array of molding are classy accents.

The kitchen, great room and library in the back of the home all have the advantage of an unobstructed lake view. Each of these rooms boasts red oak hardwood flooring, as well. The great room has two-story ceilings and three French doors topped with large, arched windows providing a stunning view of the lake.

The great room also features recessed stereo speakers, a gas fireplace with stone surround; custom built-in bar with marble top, glass shelving and mirrored walls; and a built-in painted wood entertainment unit.

Family and friends will be drawn to this step-down great room, which offers access to a 500-square-foot deck decorated with flower boxes and a large, screened-in gazebo.

A set of French doors leads to the stately library. Red-oak-paneled walls were put in to match the floors, and a built-in oak bookcase and desk are all the furnishings needed for this room. A bay window brightens the room, which also includes recessed lights and crown molding.

The kitchen offers custom, raised, white cabinetry with bottom-mounted lighting, seamless granite counters, a built-in wine rack and a bay window above the sink. Appliances include dual General Electric wall ovens, built-in GE side-by-side refrigerator, GE Profile dishwasher, GE Monogram gas cooktop and a warming drawer.

Nearby is a light-filled breakfast room with large sliding glass doors to the deck. The breakfast room also has a convenient built-in desk and raised white panel wood cabinets for organizing papers and sorting through mail.

From the breakfast room, you can easily access the large, multifunctional laundry room, which comes with a door leading to the deck. In addition to a full-size Maytag washer and dryer, the laundry room offers built-in cabinets with a utility sink, storage cabinets, a built-in ironing board and space for hanging clothes. In this same area, there is a powder room with ceramic tile flooring and Formica-top vanity.

Upstairs, the master suite is exceptionally lavish, with its three-sided, see-through fireplace, which can be enjoyed in the sitting room and bedroom area. His-and-hers reading lights come in handy when you want to cuddle up with a good novel taken from the built-in bookcases surrounding the fireplace.

The owners incorporated the outdoor view into the bedroom and turned it into a retreat by including French doors that open onto to a private balcony overlooking the lake. The master bedroom with plush off-white carpeting also includes two large walk-in closets, a tray ceiling, crown molding and four double-hung windows.

Double doors lead to a master bathroom where there’s plenty of space to linger. Handsome faux stone with marble diamond inlay decorates the floors; marble counters and a marble shower with bench seating are graceful amenities. There is also an American Standard spa tub, which sits beneath a large arched window.

Three more bedrooms and two additional bathrooms complete the upper level, which has a striking overlook onto the great room. All of the bedrooms have roomy walk-in closets and neutral carpeting. A bathroom joins two of the bedrooms, and the other bedroom, which has a mirrored wall and full-length stretch bar, comes with its own bathroom.

Hardwood stairs go down to the basement, which has flourishes of Old English charm with a solid oak pub-style bar seating six, oak floors, a spacious lounge, a huge game room and a gas fireplace with an oak mantle.

The lower level has three sets of French doors in the lounge, which open onto a brick patio, as well as a pool table, dart board, big-screen television and built-in speakers in the gaming area of the recreation room.

For overnight guests, there is a bedroom on this level with a sitting room, full-size windows and recessed lighting. Two full bathrooms are found in the basement: One joins the bedroom to the sitting room, and the other is in the recreation room. Both bathrooms feature ceramic tile floors, a tub and shower combination and white wood vanity.

In addition, this house’s many other features include central vacuum system, computerized telephone system with in-house and outdoor speakers and an in-ground sprinkler system.
