The Center for Management Services has hired Scott Fischer as its new president.

The Herndon-based company helps government and commercial organizations manage projects.

“We are a very successful company; however, we know that there is much more that we can do for our clients,” said Mr. Fischer, who will be in charge of strategic and operational leadership.

The board and senior staff hired Mr. Fischer because of his ability to put the good of the company at the forefront.

“A lot of people you bring in are really into themselves, and it’s hard to ever get down to talking about what the company needs,” said Howard Cotterman, managing director of the Center for Management Services. “We’ve had some General Patton types and we were looking for Abraham Lincoln types.”

Mr. Cotterman says Mr. Fischer is an “Abraham Lincoln” type who will do what is best for the company. In the coming months, he wants to see Mr. Fischer help the company grow and diversify while finding ways to better serve clients.

“We want to make it better in the sense that we have a broader role,” Mr. Cotterman said. “Scott has that integrating ability to look at different facets of an organization and see how they relate — the big-picture stuff.”

Mr. Fischer, a native of Bethesda, joined the company because of its current success and growth potential.

“What brought me here was … where the company is in its maturity, its growth and its position in the market, and where we can be,” Mr. Fischer said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to diversify the business.”

Mr. Fischer lives in Howard County, Md., with his wife and three sons. He enjoys participating in youth sports with his sons.
