Seen and heard last night at MCI Center:

GOTHAM STIFFS — The three tallest players on St. John’s roster, all senior centers, contribute little. Abe Keita (6-foot-10), Mohamed Diakite and Curtis Johnson (7-3) essentially waste time and space.

In 13 games, Keita, who starts, averages 0.9 points and 2.1 rebounds. Diakite’s figures are 0.7 points and 1.5 rebounds and Johnson’s 0.4 points and 2.4 rebounds.

MIKE BEHIND THE MIKE — While St. John’s interim coach Kevin Clark has the unenviable task of cleaning up Mike Jarvis’ mess in Queens, there’s talk that his former mentor is trying to hit the airwaves. Jarvis will audition at CBS for a spot on the network’s March Madness coverage.

NO GARDEN PARTY — The collapse of St. John’s storied basketball program appears to have no end. During November’s early signing period, when college basketball’s elite load up on blue-chip talent, the Red Storm was the only team in the 14-member Big East to have no signings although they will lose seven seniors — guard Willie Shaw already has been booted from the team — off this season’s ragtag outfit. Fans should prepare themselves for a JUCO invasion.
