Maryland forward Nik Caner-Medley may be disciplined by the school following his arrest for disorderly conduct Friday in Portland, Maine.

Terrapins coach Gary Williams is reviewing the case before deciding what action could be taken. Whether Caner-Medley would miss the team’s 12-day tour to Italy on Aug.17 or part of the coming season is uncertain.

“I am getting all of the information and I will make a statement at an appropriate time,” Williams said in a release.

Caner-Medley, 20, was charged after a verbal confrontation outside a bar. A police report stated Caner-Medley was intoxicated, but wasn’t charged with underaged drinking because police couldn’t place him inside the tavern. Caner-Medley was released after 29 minutes on an unsecured $1,000 bond. He must report to District Court in Portland on Oct.1.

Caner-Medley’s former AAU basketball coach Kevin Millington told the Portland Press Herald that a group approached the player and heated words were exchanged. The police report stated Caner-Medley removed his shirt and threatened the complainant by saying, “I’m from Maryland and nobody can beat me” before being restrained by friends.

“They got a little mouthy with him and he got mouthy back,” Millington said. “The police were there, but other people were around and they started taking pictures. … It got a little blown out of proportion.”
