Carroll County’s picturesque countryside and the charming village of Taneytown may beckon visitors to enjoy a day in the country, but families with at least one member 55 or older can enjoy the area year-round at the active-adult community of Carroll Vista.

Within easy driving distance of Carroll Vista are both Baltimore and Washington, plus Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg. Historic attractions and shops close to Taneytown are the Carroll County Farm Museum, the Historical Society of Carroll County and the Union Mills Homestead and Grist Mill.

Carroll Vista, a development by Del Webb, will provide a resortlike lifestyle for its residents.

The focal point for the community will be the two-story, 15,000-square-foot clubhouse, which will include both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an indoor driving range, a fitness center, exercise rooms, a sauna, a massage center, a billiards and cards room, an arts and crafts room and a multipurpose ballroom.

Outdoor amenities at the 106-acre site include tennis courts, putting greens, four chip-and-putt golf holes, croquet and boccie courts, a bird-watching sanctuary, a meditation garden, a picnic area and an extensive system of walking paths. A full-time lifestyle director will coordinate a variety of activities at Carroll Vista.

Single-family homes and villas are available at Carroll Vista, with base prices from the mid-$200,000s to the low $300,000s and 1,197 to 2,243 finished square feet. Standard features on all the homes include a one-car garage for the villa homes and a two-car garage for the single family homes, along with a sodded yard and landscape package.

Interior features will include hardwood flooring in the foyer, 9-foot ceilings on the first floor, two full baths in the villas and two or 21/2 baths in the single-family homes, crown and chair-rail moldings, high-tech wiring, central air conditioning, and gas heat and hot water.

The kitchens will each include 42-inch oak cabinets and GE appliances, including a built-in microwave, and all full baths include 6-by-6 ceramic-tile flooring. The single-family homes also include a gas direct-vent fireplace in the family room with a marble surround.

The homes can be expanded with finished lower levels, finished lofts, sunrooms and morning rooms.

The Brighton single-family-home model, priced from $302,390, has 2,029 finished square feet. This home has a front porch leading into a two-story foyer, with an open living and dining room. The central kitchen has a breakfast bar overlooking the breakfast nook, which has two knee walls to define the space and separate it from the adjacent two-story family room. The family room includes a fireplace and can be modified with an atrium door to the back yard.

The first-floor master suite includes a sitting area; a walk-in closet; and a private full bath with a corner tub, a separate shower and two separate vanities.

The main level includes a second bedroom, a second full bath and a laundry room leading to the two-car garage.
