After 25 years on the air and listenership at an all-time high of 1.4 million, talk-

show hostess Diane Rehm

had plenty to celebrate as she welcomed colleagues, friends and the creme de la creme of Washington society to an anniversary dinner hosted by home station WAMU-FM at the Mellon Auditorium on Tuesday night.

“She has given voice to the most important people and issues of our time,” noted master of ceremonies Roger Mudd, who surprised many in the crowd by announcing that the occasion also marked the guest of honor’s 68th birthday.

Proceeds from the evening benefited the Diane Rehm Fund for Public Dialogue, which supports innovative programming fostering “creative, constructive and civil dialogue.”
