The Potomac River Smallmouth Club, a popular angling and fisheries conservation club with members from all around the Washington area, presented Washington Times outdoors columnist Gene Mueller with its annual Butch Ward Conservationist of the Year Award last night.

Ward was a highly regarded Potomac River smallmouth bass fishing enthusiast, activist and conservationist, as well as the head of the Maryland State Bass Federation during the 1990s. He died of a pancreatic condition several years ago.

Mueller accepted the award during the PRSC’s monthly gathering in Vienna.
