A long journey culminated in a long sought-after result last night for the McLean All-Stars.

Pitcher Jilly Falle struck out four in six innings, and shortstop Jamie Bell drove in two runs to lead McLean to a 6-2 victory over Orange, Conn., in the championship game of the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Ore.

It was the second straight appearance in the championship game for McLean, and this year’s All-Stars became the first from Virginia or the Washington area to win the title. The team won tournaments in Virginia and Florida before being crowned winners of the international event.

“It has been a whirlwind for these girls,” manager Gary Falle said. “They’ve played great, great softball, but they’ve been experiencing a great summer at the same time.”

Falle allowed two unearned runs and eight hits in a complete game. She worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth inning, getting Cassie Slowik to ground out to end the game.

McLean struck first in the second inning when pinch runner Kat Khoury and Bell both came home off two errant Orange throws to third. Bell also singled in Kristina Bettner during the inning for one of her three hits.

Orange got back within 3-1 in the bottom of the inning when pinch runner Taylor Baker scored after Bell misplayed a popup.

Orange managed another run in the third when Torie Cimino walked and came home on an error in left, but McLean put away the game with a run on a sacrifice fly by right fielder Abby Petersen in the fourth and RBI singles by left fielder Julia Weeks and Bell in the fifth.

The Orange All-Stars were 25-0 this summer and 5-0 in World Series play entering the game. Orange beat the Philippines 1-0 in seven innings in the semifinals.

McLean beat New Iberia, La., 4-0 on Tuesday to advance to the final.
