Friday: The Capitol Hill Civil War Round Table will hear Arthur C. Candenquist, a founding member of the Bull Run Civil War Round Table, speak on “The Confederates Pick Up Steam: Jackson’s Great Train Robbery,” at 6:30 p.m. in Room 1300-1302 of the Longworth House Office Building. Jan. 10: The Civil War Round Table of the District of Columbia will hear Arthur C. Candenquist speak on “The War Between the Sheets” at Fort McNair Officers Club. Through Friday: The Christmas exhibit in the National Museum of Civil War Medicine’s conference room, 48 E. Patrick St., Frederick, focuses on 19th-century Christmas traditions and covers the celebration of Christmas by both the soldiers in the field and their families at home. Information: 301/695-1864.

Jan. 28: Civil War Ball at Gadsby’s Tavern Ballroom, Alexandria, 8 to 11 p.m. Live music, dance instruction, period desserts. Period attire, civilian or military, encouraged. Dance classes at Gadsby’s Tavern from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, 19 and 26. Classes $12 each, $30 for series. Ball $30 in advance, $40 at door. Reservations for both recommended.
