Medical examiners said yesterday the 6-year-old boy found dead inside a Southeast apartment building died as a result of multiple injuries, but no arrests have been made.

Donmiguel Nathaniel Wilson Jr. was found early Monday inside an apartment he shared with his mother and 11-month-old brother at the Wheeler Park complex, in the 3200 block of 3200 Wheeler Road Southeast. He was found in a bathtub with his hands tied and ankles bound with rags, police said.

“The cause of death is multiple injuries, including blunt-impact head trauma and asphyxia,” said Beverly Fields, a spokeswoman for D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Though police have not confirmed whether water was in the bathtub when the boy was found, Miss Fields said drowning was a factor in the death.

Police said they were awaiting the medical examiner’s report before making an arrest because they needed to know the cause of death and whether the case is ruled a homicide.

Donmiguel’s mother, Julia Barber, and his brother were not home when the boy’s body was discovered by his grandmother, who called police and relatives.

Police said the relatives have been cooperating with investigators.

Capt. C.V. Morris, of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes Branch, said the incident is likely family-related and does not involve outsiders, though a motive has not been established and no suspects have been named.

Police questioned Miss Barber for several hours Monday and Tuesday, police said.

She is at D.C. General Hospital under psychiatric observation, according to press reports.

Miss Barber gave statements that detectives think implicate her in the killing, The Washington Post reported yesterday.

She said she had clashed with Donmiguel about her boyfriend, who is the father of her 11-month-old, the newspaper also reported.
