The following are excerpts of a sermon given recently by Joseph A. Mills Jr. at Agape Embassy Ministries in Alexandria:

Today, I want to look at this conquering faith from a different perspective: having an understanding of why there is even a need for faith and why is faith so important. Faith is not a fad or a movement; it is how we obtain the promises of God. …

Look at Romans 8:37 (NIV). We all should be more than conquerors. You are not a conqueror on your own; you are a conqueror because of Him. I am more than a conqueror because of my faith in what Jesus did, or my acting on what Jesus promised. Look at Hebrews 4:1-2. There is a promise of God’s rest; but you could fall short of entering into His rest.

Most people in the church have not entered into the promise of God’s rest because they are being chased by the devil. You ought to know how to get the devil off your back. You must combine what you hear with corresponding actions; you cannot just hear something and not act on it.

The word of God lets us know that when we put things into practice, we establish ourselves with a solid foundation. So, when the storms of life come, your life may be shaken a little; but you will not crumble under the weight of the storm.

We must have an understanding that there is an invisible realm that affects this visible realm that we see; because if we do not have a clear understanding that the invisible affects visible, we will never deal with it in faith. And faith is the only way that we can deal with the invisible realm. …

When you read God’s promises, you must first believe in your heart and then declare what you read in order to obtain what God promised. If it is not in your heart, then you must confess it until it gets in your heart so that you can believe it. Then what you confess will come to pass. This does not mean that it will come overnight; you must maintain the posture of belief through your confession and your actions until it comes to pass in your life.

What you say you believe will be challenged by the devil. If you don’t have conquering faith, he will steal what little faith you do have; and you will never receive the promises of God. Conquering faith begins where the will of God is known. … The word of God says that when I pray according to His will, believe that I received it, at the time that I pray; and I will have it. If it does not come today, tomorrow or a year from now, it was not time; but I know that it is coming.

Sometimes God is directing you; and you may not understand what He is doing. Just follow the Spirit of God. Favor comes. After a while, you get to the end; and it is already done.

Conquering faith is a faith that overcomes the challenges of life. Faith is a law that has governing guidelines. … Why is it important for us to understand the principle of the law of faith? First, if the working of faith is misunderstood, faith will remain in its undeveloped condition. Faith without works is incomplete. You must put into practice what you hear so that your faith will be developed; and when the adversary comes, you will overcome. … Second, those who will live right are called to live by faith. How many of you want to live right? Look at Romans 1:17. Righteousness or right living comes by faith. Righteous people conduct their lives through faith.
