A new condominium conversion project near the Van Dorn Street Metro station in Alexandria offers relief for weary commuters. Orion Residential LLC purchased the Alexandria Apartment Homes, now known as EOS Twenty-one, in August 2004 and has been renovating the homes with updated kitchen appointments and appliances, new windows and landscaping.

Some 344 of the 1,524 homes at EOS Twenty-one will be sold as condominiums with base prices from the high $100,000s to the low $300,000s, with the rest remaining as rental homes.

EOS Twenty-one has studio and one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, all part of a busy community near Interstates 395 and 495.

Residents can enjoy commuting via a free shuttle service in the mornings and evenings to the Van Dorn Street station and can walk across the street to Landmark Mall, banks, grocery stores and restaurants.

Within the community and part of what the developers term a “Club 21” lifestyle are two swimming pools; a big-screen movie theater; a sauna; tanning beds; a deli and convenience market; a coffee bar; dry-cleaning service; DVD rentals; a fitness center; and a business center with computers, fax machines, printers and copiers.

The tree-lined community will include tennis courts, grilling areas and a sand volleyball court. Community events will be planned to encourage neighbors to gather.

Standard features at EOS Twenty-one include secure controlled-access entryways; ceramic-tile flooring in the kitchen, bath and laundry rooms; a private patio or balcony; oversize closets; air conditioning; and gas heat. Some homes include a fireplace. Pets are welcome.

The homes range from a 496-square-foot studio apartment to one-bedroom homes with 708 to 843 square feet, two-bedroom homes with 1,025 to 1,182 square feet and three-bedroom homes with 1,227 square feet.

A corner one-bedroom home with 843 square feet includes a separate foyer, a living room with a balcony and a side window, and a dining room with a large window off the kitchen. The bedroom has two closets, a dressing area with a vanity, and a sink and full bath.

The smallest of the two-bedroom homes, with 1,025 square feet, has a foyer entrance, a kitchen, and a large balcony along the entire length of the living room and dining room. Two bedrooms each have a wall of windows at one end. This home has a full bath and a wall of closets near the foyer.

The largest two-bedroom model, with 1,182 square feet, has a foyer entrance, a living room with a fireplace and balcony, and a dining room next to the kitchen.

The two bedrooms are on either side of the living room, one with a walk-in closet and dressing area with a vanity and sink, plus a private full bath. The other bedroom has two closets, a dressing area with a vanity and sink, and a full bath.

The three-bedroom model, with 1,227 square feet, has an entrance into the spacious living and dining area, with a sliding glass door to the balcony, a kitchen, a laundry area, and a hall bath for use by two of the bedrooms. The master bath includes a walk-in closet and a private full bath with a shower.
