Thomas Edward “Pop” Kiger Sr., a retired engineer and longtime Calvert County resident, died May 4 after a brief illness at his sister’s home in Northumberland, Pa. He was 76.

Born June 15, 1938, he was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 77 for 44 years before retiring.

An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Eureka gun club. His hobbies included beekeeping and model-train building.

He is survived by two sons, Edward Kiger of Chesapeake Beach, Md., and Thomas Kiger of Dunkirk, Md.; a sister, Jean Phillips of Northumberland; a brother, James Kiger of Northumberland; and four grandchildren.

Services have been held.
