Yesterday at Comcast Center:

33 Turnovers committed by St. Francis Xavier, many as the result of Maryland’s press. The Terrapins scored 39 points off X-Men turnovers in the rout.

Mike Jones needed less than two minutes to score seven points. He soared in from the wing to dunk Travis Garrison’s miss to make it 13-9, then followed with a steal and a dunk seconds later. On Maryland’s next possession, the junior made a 3-pointer.

While D.J. Strawberry thrived at point guard, Sterling Ledbetter and Parrish Brown were less efficient in backup roles. Ledbetter had two assists and a turnover in 12 minutes, while Brown had the same totals in 11 minutes.

“They struggled,” coach Gary Williams said. “It is what it is. It’s Nov. [5]. This is a big week for everybody in practice but those guys, too. One of those guys is going to have to play some [behind Strawberry].”
