COMING TO AMERICA

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced its first two U.S. hotel openings — in Miami and Chicago. The Shangri-La Hotel, Miami, will be the first to open, in 2008. Situated in the Biscayne Bay area, the hotel is part of the $400 million Island Garden development. The hotel will have 147 rooms along with 105 residences that will be managed by the hotel.

The Shangri-La Hotel, Chicago, will open in 2009 in the new Waterview Tower, which at 1,050 feet will be the fifth-tallest building in the city. The hotel will offer 200 units on floors 12 through 27 of the 90-story tower and will offer 233 residences. Shangri-La also will open its new spa, Chi, the Spa at Shangri-La, in the Chicago hotel.

SEE LONDON AND PARIS

If you don’t mind the so-so weather, one of the best times to visit Western Europe is during the winter off-season. British Airways Holidays is offering the chance to see two of Europe’s most popular cities — London and Paris — with a four-night, two-city combination package for $635 (for both Washington Dulles International Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Airport departures). The package includes round-trip economy airfare between Washington, London and Paris, two nights at the three-star Royal National Hotel in London and two nights at the two-star Kyriad La Villette Hotel in Paris, along with daily breakfast.

Package rates are available through Nov. 11; seven-day advance booking is required. Travel is valid Oct. 27 through Jan. 31. Taxes are not included. To book, call 877/428-2228.

GO WEST

While much of the East Coast is caught up in fall foliage, the stylish James Hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz., is offering a variety of special packages for those looking to head west for the weekend. The “It’s All About Me” package ($449 per night) includes a pool-view room, in-room dinner from the five-star Fiamma Trattoria, massage treatment in a poolside cabana, and a personal training session in the Gym.

For those looking for fresh air and exercise, the James Hotel offers “Get Adventurous” packages that range from rafting and sky diving to mountain biking and rock climbing. Package prices start at $739 and include pool-view room, transportation to and from each activity and continental breakfast from Fiamma Trattoria. Packages are available midweek and on the weekends through Dec. 31. To book, see www.jameshotels.com or call 888/500-8080.
