Year started: Both started in 2002

How did you get started in real estate? We had always thought that a career in real estate was something that we wanted to do once our children were old enough. We then met our first broker, and we knew that it was the correct time for us to pursue our new career.

How long with the current company? Since 2002

Licenses and designations: Both have Virginia real estate sales licenses; both are graduates of the Realtor institute; both have the e-Pro certified Internet professional designation.

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Our community support program helped the town of Dumfries take underprivileged children shopping during the holidays. We provide financial assistance for the “Christmas in Dumfries” program with our commission split from every home sale, and we volunteer our time with the children while they shop and later have brunch and visit with Santa. Last year we, along with about 50 other volunteers, took 110 children shopping for clothes, shoes and toys. The program also provides the family with a holiday meal.

Area of specialty: Eastern Prince William and Stafford County residential resales.

Highest-priced home sold: $337,000

Most memorable house: Our very first listing was a beautiful Colonial just outside Dumfries. The home was ideally located and immaculate inside and out. It had a wonderful screened-in sunroom with a hot tub. It was like coming home to your own private oasis.

Worst experience: We had listed a home for a nice young family who were moving up to their dream home in Fauquier County. The contract was with a local reputable company with a local reputable lender, and everything was going along beautifully until the purchaser decided to change to an Internet lender at the last moment without letting anyone else know. When we called the original lender the week of closing, we were informed they were no longer the lender on the contract. Our clients lost their dream home because the seller would not wait two weeks for the Internet lender to get its act together. Fortunately we were able to find a builder who built them a custom home, and we had the purchaser of their home rent back to them for three months while it was under construction and pay for their additional out-of-pocket expenses caused by the delay in closing.

Family: Barbara, two grown sons, Branden and Bryan; one daughter, Brittany; and husband of 25 years, Brad. Cathy, grown son, Chris; husband of 22 years, Tom

Pets: Various cats, dogs, rabbits

Community affiliations: Both are past block captains and neighborhood watch coordinators for the town of Dumfries; Barbara is a former team mom for Dumfries Triangle Quantico Little League Baseball and Dumfries Police Baseball and a Girl Scout leader; Cathy is a former Potomac High School and Forest Park High School marching band mom. Both currently volunteer for Dumfries Charter Day, National Night Out, Fall Festival and Christmas in Dumfries

Last book read: Both read “The Millionaire Real Estate Agent” by Gary Keller

Last movie seen: Both saw “Madagascar”

What kind of cars do you drive? Barbara, Dodge Durango; Cathy, Chrysler Sebring

What is your personal dream house? Both want a large beach house so all the family could come and visit.
